  • Walls of Jericho, Hytop, Alabama - near the Tennessee Line

Where:  Walls of Jericho - Hytop, Alabama - near the Tennessee Line.  This is a popular hike located in North Alabama and rated as one of Alabama's "must do"  hikes.  Beautiful scenery, many waterfalls, magnificent walls of rock, and blue water holes for swimming -but so cold it may only appeal to penguins.   Date: Saturday, October 27 - All Day Outing - 2 hours drive there, 3 hours hiking, 1 hour lunch/viewing, 2 hours drive back. Length:  This is a 6.6 mile roundtrip hike.   Rated: Difficult   This hike is 3.3 miles downhill and 3.3 miles back up hill.   This hike also encounters rocky terrain that can be slippery if wet, water crossings on logs, and steep switchbacks, make this not for everyone.  The elevation change each way is approximately 1,350 feet.   That is 1,350 feet down, 1,350 feet back up.     Bring:  Water - if it is hot bring plenty! I would suggest 3 bottles each wayLunch - bring lunch and we will eat at the bottom while we rest up for the hike out.   Meet at 7:45  Depart at 8:00 a.m. from the Cracker Barrel in Trussville on Norrell Drive, 35173.  From B'ham turn right on North Chalkville Rd Exit 141 off 59 then left on Norrell just before the McDonalds.  Park in the back of Cracker Barrel away from the building.      ****** I will be there at 7:00 to eat breakfast if you want to join me.  Return Time :  We should be back to Trussville around 5:00 PM.        If you have further questions, please call Randy Ray, 205/541-6581
